Why Polimnia
Polymnia is the muse of sacred hymns, meditated speech and eloquence. She is portrayed in quiet attention, listening before she speaks. The name holds together the two directions of the Foundation: Christian inspiration and communication understood as listening and participation.
Inspiration
The Foundation is inspired by the values of Christian thought, the social teaching of the Church, integral humanism and participatory democracy (art. 3.1). In Italy and abroad it directs its work towards peace, international cooperation, social justice and respect for human rights (art. 3.3).
What we do
It pursues civic, solidarity and social-benefit aims through activities of general interest: education and training, research, culture and publishing, protection of cultural heritage and landscape, development cooperation, and the promotion of legality and rights (art. 3.2). It works with public and private bodies, universities, foundations and international organisations.
A participation foundation
Alongside its Founders, the Foundation welcomes those who wish to contribute to its work (art. 7 and 9):
- Supporters
- Contribute over several years with money, goods or services.
- Participants
- Contribute over several years with intellectual, scientific and value-based work.
- Friends
- Share the aims of the Foundation and pay an annual fee, without a management role.
- Honorary members
- Individuals and organisations appointed by the Assembly of Founders for their merit and standing.
